"I will do anything for more power...even if it means selling my soul."

Hello friends. This thread was made to give people interested in Berserkers a look at what skills most Berserkers consider for their builds. Due note, however, that I am a PvE Hell Bringer and only have a basic knowledge of PvP and PvP builds.

He is one who, without a second thought, slays the foe that stands before him. He does not deny, nor is ashamed of, his demon-possessed arm. He accepts the fact that the demon that dwells within him, at any moment, could destroy him. And he endures, even in the midst of the excruciating pain caused by Kazan Syndrome...

To those who choose the path of the Berserker, unimaginable strength is bestowed; however, embracing such a destiny comes with an acceptance that one’s life will end painfully and tragically. Tombstones throughout the continent mark the final resting place of Berserkers who were all unparalleled in battle but met harrowing ends. One by one, they evaporated...like a withering flame into thin air. Even given vast demonic energy, the Berserker is still a prisoner to the limits of the human body. Though they appear to fear nothing, even they cannot divest themselves of the most basic and human of feelings. They still desire to live.

Awakening into a Hell Bringer may grant them even more power, but it quickens the strangling coils of mortality. The Hell Bringers are known for their endless pursuit of vitality. By absorbing the blood of other creatures, their drink in their vital power. However, the more power gained, the more intense their own candle of life burns, bringing them ever closer to their ill-fated deaths.

Until then, Hell Bringers will be of tremendous help to the Dungeon Fighters. If you find yourself alone in a party with a Hell Bringer, just pray that his blood and vigor will last until the end of the dungeon.

Berserkers are a class known for their massive damage at the cost of HP. Since you are probably interested in Berserkers, let's look at the pros and cons of this class.

    Pros:
    -High damage output.
-Parties love Bloody Twister and all of the hit stun you offer.
-Even if we run out of MP, we can still do good damage since Gore Cross, Outrage Break, and our normal attack don't use MP.
    -Bloody (if you're into that).
-Excel at PvE; soloing is breeze.

    Cons:
-Frenzy, Gore Cross, and Outrage Break cost HP to use.
-Super Armored enemies are particularly annoying.
-High HP potion consumption in early levels if you want to maintain Frenzy.
-Late bloomers. You get Frenzy at level 35 but you have to wait until the early 40's to be able to maintain your HP easily.
    -Weak Awakening.

    Cross class skills:

    General:

Quick Rebound - Enables your character to quickly rebound to a sitting position after getting knocked down, ignoring the enemy's attacks, to seek an opportunity to counterattack.

Good for avoiding additional damage after you've been knocked down.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE/PvP: 1

Leap - Increases your Jump Strength by 20% for the duration of this skill.

A decent way to get out of sticky situations, mainly used in PvP.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE: 0
    PvP: 0, 1

    Physical Critical Hit
    - Focuses your mind to increase your Physical Critical Hit Rate.

A decent way to increase your DPS. Usually not a top priority since Berserker can stack a lot of buffs but this skill offers a boost in damage nonetheless.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE/PvP: 0, 10

    Asura:

Neutral Wave Sword - Quickly summons a Neutral Wave to push back and knock down enemies in front of you.

You get level 1 of this skill for free. This skill is mainly used as poke in PvP; the damage is nothing impressive.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE/PvP: 1

Wave Wheel Slasher - Perform an upward slash to cast a Wave Wheel to deliver multiple attacks on an enemy, and knocks back all the enemies within the Wave Wheel's range.

Wave Wheel is a fast grab, faster than Bloodlust with enough cast speed, and it has a larger y-axis range, making it possible to lift large targets off the ground to continue combos.

Cancel: As with any grab on a character that heavily uses normal attacks, it is useful for quickly avoiding damage. The cancel is more applicable to PvP since Wave Wheel has a lot of combo potential.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE: 0, 1
    PvP: 0, 1, 5+Cancel.

Spirit Crescent - Brandishes a sword to shoot a giant spirit sword.

A steal skill, not worth the SP.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE/PvP: 0

    Soul Bender:

Ghost Slash - Summons a ghost into you weapon, and forcefully slashes enemies in a large area in front of you.

You get level 1 for free. Even if you can find any use for this skill, it's still best left at level 1.

    Cancel: Don't get it.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE/PvP: 1

Kazan - Summons Kazan for 20 seconds to increase the Strength and Intelligence of you and your party within Kazan's range.

To take full advantage of this skill, you must stay in the circle, limiting you movement. However, you can use Bloody Twister to drag enemies into the circle. I haven't heard of many Berserkers getting it but if you can take full advantage of Kazan then more power to you. If you are considering this skill be sure that you will use it, otherwise it's just a waste of SP.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE: 0, 5 (max)
    PvP: 0

Moonlight Slash - Performs two slashes, one with each hand.

This skill has a large hit box. Possibly good for continuing juggles in PvP.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE: 0
    PvP: 0, 1

Hazy-Eyed Bremen - Summons Bremen to decrease the Abnormal Status Tolerance and Magic Defense of enemies within Bremen's range.

A steal skill, the 60 SP investment is high and generally not worth it, plus it requires Level 5 Kazan, making it a major SP sink.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE/PvP: 0

    Weapon Master:

Upward Slash - Perform an upward slash, with a couple Super Armor frames, to launch an enemy into the air.

A nice, fast launch skill. It is good for starting and extending combos.

Cancel: Very useful and it's free!

    Recommended Levels:
PvE: 1, whatever you're comfortable with.
    PvP: 10 (max)

Guard - Puts your weapon in front of you to reduce the damage of attacks inflicted to you.

This is one of those skills that you will need to get used to using. It is great for protecting yourself from shockwaves, projectiles, counterattacks, and just about anything that will be thrown at you. If you get this skill, get into the habit of using it.

Cancel: Definitely put some consideration into this if you are thinking of getting Guard, it helps Guard reach its full potential since we use our normal attack a lot.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE/PvP: 0, 1, 3+Cancel, 5+Cancel (max)

Thrust - Enables you to perform an additional stab after your normal dash attack. It pushes back enemies if it hits.

This skill is quite powerful from levels 5 to 18(pre job advance), but afterward it'll loses its use. I've read that it can be used to fake-out people in PvP but I am questioning how useful that can really be.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE: 0
    PvP: 0, 1

Triple Slash - Slides your character forward to attack an enemy.

Useful as an escape; and it's free.

Cancel: Most Berserkers don't get it but if you have the SP and want it, then go for it.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE/PvP: 1

Ashe Fork - Hammers an enemy with a downward thrust, creates a shockwave if you jump from a certain height.

Mainly used in PvP as an approach since it has a large Y axis range. Ashe Fork does have a bit of utility in PvE since it has a low MP cost, a shockwave, and can help keep enemies on the ground.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE: 0, 1
PvP: 0, 1, however high you want.

[Weapon] Mastery - Increases Physical/Magic Weapon Attack and Physical Hit Rate.

VERY useful for Berserkers. If a solid 20% Weapon Attack isn't enough for you, then the 5% Hit Rate should get you. Only pick one mastery, we're not Weapon Masters and the SP is better spent elsewhere.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE/PvP: 10 (max)

Aerial Chain Slash - Allows you to perform additional attacks in midair.

Used as a way to knockdown enemies and extend combos in PvP.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE: 0
    PvP: 0, 1 (max)

Flip Side Counter - Adds a chance to auto-counter attack when attacked from behind.

At a large SP cost of 60 per level, it is usually not worth it.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE/PvP: 0

    Berserkers:

[IMG]Gore Cross - Wields your weapon in the shape of a cross to slash the enemy and then strike the enemy with a spiritual blood cross that can inflict Bleeding.

The first Berserker skill you get, this is one of your core skills. Great for damage, inflicting Bleeding, and continuing juggles. The Bleeding proc on this skill is wonderful, 40% at level 20. It will make maintaining HP much easier if you have Gore Cross maxed. PvP Berserkers usually leave this skill at level 5 since damage protection would kick in at higher levels of Gore Cross.

Cancel: By far one of the most useful cancels for a Berserker. It makes comboing much easier. XXX (while in Frenzy) + Gore Cross will juggle enemies.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE: 20+Cancel (max)
    PvP: 5+ Cancel

[IMG]Mountainous Wheel - Hop forward while in Super Armor to hammer the ground.

A great approach! With Vim and Vigor it has a shockwave upon hitting the ground that can inflict Bleeding. It can also hit enemies 2-3 times. The shockwave size scales with level, which is handy for both PvP and PvE.

Cancel: This one is purely preference. Some Berserkers love it and some find it useless.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE/PvP: 5, 20 (max)

[IMG]Diehard - When your HP is extremely low, you can use this skill to slowly regain some HP. You will also receive a Physical Defense and Hit Recovery buff.

You get level 1 of this skill when you advance into a Berserker. This skill does not heal much and scales poorly. Some Berserkers will max it so they can cycle between Diehard and Fortune Coins but most leave it at level 1 since they'd rather put the SP elsewhere.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE/PvP: 1

[IMG]Vim and Vigor - Converts Gore Cross's MP cost to HP, creates a shockwave when Mountainous Wheel lands, and increases the enemy's chance of Bleeding.

This skill is a must get; no questions asked.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE/PvP: 1 (max)

[IMG]Bloody Cross - Increases your strength and evasion when your HP is below 40%. The lower your HP, the greater the bonus is.

This is skill rewards Berserkers for being at low HP, which we often are.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE/PvP: 10 (max)

[IMG]Bloodlust - Grabs an enemy to absorb its energy, then radiates that energy to inflict damage and increase your strength for 10 seconds. If you use this skill on a Bleeding enemy, you will do additional damage and the strength buff will last for 20 seconds.

The strength buff on Bloodlust is amazing, and since it's cooldown is 6 seconds (and gets lower thanks to Frenzy) it is a great way to stack more strength. The damage is pretty good too. Ideally this skill should be maxed but if you're low on SP then you can drop this skill a few levels.

Cancel - As with any grab cancel, it's great on a class that uses its normal attack a lot. This will save you from a lot of attacks when used properly.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE/PvP: 20+cancel (max)

[IMG]Derange - The Berserker enters a state of derangement and has his strength, attack speed, and movement speed increased but physical/magical defenses decreased by 70%.

A great way to boost your damage but as you can see, you need to be very careful when using this. This skill is a nice example of a Berserker's true nature. Some might not find this skill useful since it reduces your defense by a lot. But once you start to learn room patterns, it will become easy to know when you should and should not use this.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE/PvP: 10 (max)

[IMG]Sacrifice - Give up some of your HP to increase your strength, attack speed, and movement speed, but your physical/magical defenses are decreased by 70%. When this skill is used on party members, you will get some of the HP you gave up back.

This skill is almost exactly like Derange except it gives less strength at the cost of being able to buff party members. While most prefer to get Derange, some get this skill in addition to Derange to maintain a MASSIVE boost to strength, attack speed, and movement speed. Unfortunately that leaves them with paper-thin defense.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE/PvP: 0, 10 (max)

[IMG]Raging Fury - Unleashes your anger in a circle around you to launch enemies high into the air.

A major source of damage, Raging Fury is great since it can be used both defensively and offensively.

Cancel - Another preference cancel. Getting this cancel allows for much more defensive use or Raging Fury since you can cancel into enemies sneaking up from behind.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE/PvP: 16 (max)

[IMG]Frenzy - Continuously consumes HP to increase your Hit Rate, Hit Recovery, and attack strength and cooldown of Gore Cross, Bloodlust, and Raging Fury. Your normal attack is also changed into dual weapon attack. You also receive a small amount of HP when you kill a Bleeding enemy.

This is the epitome of Berserkers. This is what we are known for. A lot of our damage comes from our Frenzy'd normal attack. You will max this and you will like it so much that you will do everything in your power to stack additional levels of Frenzy.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE/PvP: 10 (max)

[IMG]Bloody Twister - Summons a twister that creates a suction effect to drag enemies toward you; while enemies are in the twister, they will receive a hit stun that inflicts no damage but can inflict Bleeding at a high rate; then you will perform a powerful Super Armored slash. Frenzy must be active to use this skill.

This skill takes a little getting used to. It is easy to interrupt Bloody Twister since the suction effect is stopped once you get hit. With proper use, this skill can be amazing, especially in parties. The Bleeding rate on this skill is also really high, making it a great way to regain a lot of HP in rooms with a lot of enemies.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE/PvP: 1

[IMG]Outrage Break - Hammers the ground with a bloody spirit sword that launches enemies, hitting them with the debris created by the strike. Frenzy must be active to use this skill.

This skill consumes zero MP but 1xx HP. Outrage Break covers a fairly large area and does really good damage. Note that during the jump you have no Super Armor but when you are hammering the ground you will have Super Armor and have invincibility during the eruption. Plan for that accordingly.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE/PvP: 1, 8 (max)

    Hell Bringer:

[IMG]Bloody Memory - Increases the Bleed level of all skills and when bleeding enemies are within a 400 pixel range, increases the Hell Bringer's strength and hit rate. The buff can stack up to 5 times.

You get level 1 when you advance into a Hell Bringer. This skill is mainly leveled for the extra Bleed levels, which is attained at level 4. Some Hell Bringers might max this skill to maximize the bonus strength and hit rate but the buff is highly dependent on the number of enemies in the room.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE: 1, 4, 6 (max)
    PvP: 1

[IMG]Extreme Overkill - Absorbs energy from enemies and summons an energy sword that causes a Neutral explosion as powerful as the charged energy. Each time an enemy is physically hit while this skill is in effect, the sword will absorb energy, increasing your Attack and Movement Speeds, and the size of the energy sword. The sword inflicts maximum damage when fully charged. There is a chance of causing the Bleeding effect to enemies when their energy is absorbed. Re-pressing the skill key while absorbing energy manually summons the energy sword, which is automatically summoned upon the absorbing period expiration, to deliver multiple Neutral hits to enemies and cause a Neutral explosion.

While this skill might sound cool, it is one the slowest, if not THE slowest awakenings of all classes. The damage is also weak as far as awakenings go. This skill isn't very popular with the Hell Bringer community. Although, some Hell Bringers will get this skill since this skill can hold enemies in place with the hit stun from eruption.

    Recommended Levels:
    PvE: 1
    PvP: 0

    Equipment:

    Weapons:
Berserkers most commonly use Great Swords (Zanbato), Bludgeons, or Katanas.

    Great Swords:
These have the highest physical attack and range, but are the slowest of all Slayer weapons. Mainly used in PvE.

    List of all Great Swords.

A common route for those with low funds is to use the quest Great Swords, which you get at level 27, 32, and 38, until level 45 which is when you can use a Rock Cleaver.

    Bludeons:
Second highest physical attack, second slowest, and medium range. This type of weapon usually has some sort of chance to inflict status effects onto enemies. Mainly used in PvE but also can be viable for PvP(?).

    List of all Bludeons.

Remember to pick up a Machismo since it give +1 Frenzy, so you can use it when you cast Frenzy at the beginning of the dungeon.

    Katanas:
Lowest physical attack, second shortest range, and fastest (aside from Lightsabers) or all Slayer weapons. The fast speed makes this weapon idea for PvP since more attack speed makes combos go smoother in PvP.

    List of all Katanas.

    Armor:
Since we have a Heavy Armor mastery that adds physical defense and HP, naturally we'll want to benefit from that mastery.

    List of all Heavy Armor.

    Avatars:

Hat: Cast Speed (PvP), HP/MP Regen (PvE)
Hair: Cast Speed (PvP), HP/MP Regen (PvE)
    Face: Attack Speed
    Torso: Attack Speed
Top: Gore Cross, [Weapon] Mastery, Derange, Bloodlust, Frenzy (you can use this when you cast Frenzy then switch to another top)
    Bottom: HP
Shoes: Movement Speed (PvP/PvE), Strength (PvE), Jump Strength (PvP)
Waist: Evasion (PvP/PvE), Maximum Weight (PvE), Element Resist
Skin: Physical Damage Reduction (PvE/PvP), Magical Damage Reduction (PvP)

    Tips and Tricks:
-Only Frenzy's level at the time of casting matters, so you can get level 13 Frenzy with equips, cast Frenzy, and switch to other equips but still have the benefit of level 13 Frenzy.
-Good ways to stack Frenzy are: Machismo (level 50 Bludgeon, +1 Frenzy), Advance Avatar top, and most set bonuses. The Magistrate (level 50 Pink Great Sword) gives +2 Frenzy but is a bit pricey.
-Frenzy's normal attacks range is the same regardless of weapon.

  2. conewicci I dun goofed.

Great guide, I'd just like to say that Bloodlust should be maxed for PvE. No real reason to not get it, and the Strength boost is epic. Also, I'd like to say Ashe Fork at level 1 in PvE is amazing for those times when you have to hit and run because of low HP or something, or just as an approach.
  3. BlanixTheBlood Perfect hair

Mountainous is a better pve approach than ashe. For pvp its a Y axis approach.
  4. conewicci I dun goofed.

MW takes too much MP though. Ashe Fork is only 25 SP, takes 12 MP, and can be used to just knock the guys down quickly. Also, you might want to knock the guys down, x them up a bit to group them up, and then MW to make em all bleed/take a bunch of damage.
  5. BlanixTheBlood Perfect hair

Your worrying about MP usage on a berserker?
  6. conewicci I dun goofed.

You're worrying about 25 SP on a Berserker?
  7. BlanixTheBlood Perfect hair

I'm worried about doing less dps on a zerker.
  8. conewicci I dun goofed.

Look at my first post again, the MP thing isn't the only thing I said. Also, Ashe Fork + MW means you can almost constantly keep them grounded with a few x hits in there. With just MW, they'll have enough time to recover.

But my god man, all I was saying is that Ashe Fork at level 1 is useful for PvE. Not saying every Berserker should get it, it's just that I have found it really useful. Stop making a big deal over that little thing... =.=
  9. Jay Garden of Eden.

I'll add that it has some utility in PvE.
  10. BlanixTheBlood Perfect hair

Calm down man. All I'm saying is that it takes less time to do more damage by doing MW XXXX then it takes to jump ashe fork MW XXXX.
I honestly have no idea what boss/mob you would need ashe fork to keep pinned when theres gore cross cancel, MW cancel, and fury cancel to keep a cycle of frenzy X spam.
  11. conewicci I dun goofed.

I personally like having Ashe Fork, all I was saying is that it's nice. Also, that doesn't do more damage. And, you can't walk up to a mob and just go Gore Cross>MW>xxxx all the time, but with Ashe Fork you can do Ashe Fork>Gore Cross>MW>xxxx.

I'm perfectly calm, but you're making this big ass deal over this little comment I had. Maybe you wouldn't like it. Okay then. But I do, and some other people might. Considering this is a guide for Berserkers, I feel it should just be mentioned that a level 1 Ashe Fork is fine to get for PvE.
  12. VariousGuy Dead Guy

Enough of this rage, fighting, whatever you call it.

Personally, I got Ashe Fork on my Zerk, and almost never use it. I just find MW more useful to my playstyle. Ashe Fork does have its uses, as cone pointed out.
