Client Mods, Rebrith Style

As people have noticed, Rebirth broke the old classic folder swap way to mod. Since some people don't know about the fix on these forums (I original posted it on the Source forums) here goes the trick to making custom changes to the client.

Just add a 2 to the file name.

Yes it's that simple it'll look something like this.

And yes this works on image mods as well and you don't have to worry about the file size being the same.

So does that mean we don't need to use the DFO Control Panal?
  3. Yden New Member

Nope not for soundpack swapping. You could still use it as a browserless launcher assuming that aspect works.

Awesome! Thank you for your help! ^^
Now I don't have to hear the man-lady thief. :)

So we just add a 2 only to that file?
  6. Yden New Member

To whatever file you want to mod. Here's a list of the voice files.

    sounds_char_fighter.npk - Fighter voices
    sounds_char_gunner.npk - M.gunner voices
    sounds_char_gunner_f.npk - F.gunner voices
    sounds_char_priest.npk - Priest voices
    sounds_char_swordman.npk - Slayer voices
    sounds_char_thief.npk - Thief Voices
sounds_char_thief_effect.npk - Thief skill effects, includes summon voices
    sounds_char_wizard.npk - Mage voices
    sounds_npc.npk - NPC voices
sounds_mon*.npk - Monster voices (if you want to undub those too)

cant get it 2 work when i add the 2 dfo just re-write the old files when i run it

do we need to this for custom music tracks, such as Ring's music packs? Or just for voice/speech files?

There seems to be a problem when you try to put the 2 in for the Imagepack2. Some of the APCs are wearing the original avatars, but the players are okay. I took out the ImagePack3 and then relog in the game, and it's still doing the same thing.

OK so just to clarify, within the Soundpack folder, I do NOT have to add a "2" to *ALL* the files in that folder, and only the ones that has to do with the characters' voices:

    sounds_char_fighter.npk - Fighter voices
    sounds_char_gunner.npk - M.gunner voices
    sounds_char_gunner_f.npk - F.gunner voices
    sounds_char_priest.npk - Priest voices
    sounds_char_swordman.npk - Slayer voices
    sounds_char_thief.npk - Thief Voices
sounds_char_thief_effect.npk - Thief skill effects, includes summon voices
    sounds_char_wizard.npk - Mage voices
    sounds_npc.npk - NPC voices

.....is this correct? There are a bunch of other files that are in that folder. Do I need to add a 2 to ALL of them or just the ones above?

Just the ones above for said voices. The filename will tell you what sounds are in the npk and just add the 2 to whatever one you want to mod to the language of your choice.
  13. isamu New Member

The strange thing is, I added 2 to the voice files, and then upon starting the game it re-downloaded the original voice files again. So that means I now have the original voice files *AND* the ones with a 2 at the end in the same folder, totalling about 62 files instead of the default 50. Fortunately the voices are Japanese the way I want them, so I'm not complaining.
  14. Yden New Member

That's how it's supposed to work. The patcher will always search to make sure you have the original file. When the client goes to load said file though, it sees the 2 file first and loads the voices from there instead of the original.

Ahhh THAT explains it! Thanks for the clarification yden and keep up the good work! :) :thumb:

4 some reason i cant get it 2 work, i add a 2 to all the files above so it would look like this

    sounds_char_fighter2.npk

but just like isamu said when i load dfo, dfo just replace the files i just rename then when it finally done loading the voice r not switch they r still the same. am i doing something wrong or will it not work me 4?
  17. Yden New Member

You're supposed to rename the Korean or Japanese file with the 2 not the English.
  18. Sanji New Member

AHH i see, my problem was i had 2 folder 1 was the custom sound packs that i use 4 the control panel and dfo sound packs. i transfer the files from the custom into the dfo sound and i got it 2 work. thx 4 all ur help. :D

    Hey guys,

OK I just recently re-downloaded the game off steam because I would prefer to launch it from there. Unfortunately, whatever updates Nexon made to DFO since last September has broken this method of using custom voice packs. I have the custom Japanese voice pack in a separate folder. I proceeded to copy and paste the files into my new DFO/soundpacks folder within the steam directory, but upon starting the game, DFO just overwrites the files.

Before you ask, *yes* the japanese voice pack file names have a 2 at the end of them.

So, is there something I'm doing wrong? Or is there another method of renaming/replacing the files? Please let me know. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

The guys at DFOSource claimed that I need to change the number at the end of the file, so that it reads "filename(1).npk" rather than "filename2.npk". I've done this but the game is still in English :(
