Heroes of Newerth

  1. conewicci I dun goofed.

I've been recently contemplating buying it... I heard it's on sale as well, for 15$ instead of 30, so... have any of you that have played LoL bought HoN? I don't wanna waste money (even if it is only 15$), so I'm wondering whether it's basically worth buying it if I'm already playing LoL.

I've heard it's a lot harder to get used to, and the people there are complete elitist jerks, but... even then, if the game is good enough, I can get past that.

Also, is the game balanced? Like the characters? I've heard some characters can stealth and then just one shot people while invisibile... and if that's true, then I'd prefer to not buy the game.

I played HoN. I dunno why it's considered better than LoL

Thanks for that video, seems fairly in-depth and useful.

It just seems like HoN is better than LoL, for the most part, except for the community. The game also has really cool graphics though, which might be twisting my perspective...

I think the art style is a mess. Were they trying to go for dark and gritty or shiny and flashy?
  6. conewicci I dun goofed.

I personally like it a lot more, it feels much more dynamic and... serious.

    Oh wow, I forgot about DotA/DotA 2...

I've heard HoN has better graphics than DotA, but otherwise is practically a rip-off of DotA. Does anyone know about DotA(1 or 2)/HoN versus LoL?
  7. TheHolyGuy Member

I prefer LoL's vibrant and cartoony style
  8. conewicci I dun goofed.

I generally like the other style more, where it's more serious. I dunno, I guess it might be because I can't remember a game that I've played that actually has that art style to it, so it's basically new to me and looks really awesome because of that.

I like cartoony things, makes me feel nostalgic and warm and fuzzy
and also, HoN hurts my eyes more than LoL

Even though they're the same genre, HoN and LoL are completely different games.

You can't really say one is better than the other

I hear DotA 2 is gonna be the same as HoN. As in you buy the game for $X and have all the content.
  12. TheHolyGuy Member

    I'm so getting DotA 2
  13. conewicci I dun goofed.

That's actually the first time I've heard that. They seem pretty similar (and not just because they're both moba), though.

Does anyone know anything about when DotA is going to be released?

Oh yeah, and I really like the fact that HoN is a one-time payment. Despite LoL being free, because of how it works, it takes so god dammed long to unlock all the characters, which is really freaking annoying, since there's no real way to test the characters out before you can buy them.
  14. Rawrrr Bitch.

They have different mechanics, different heroes, different metas, different playstyles, different map; pretty much everything is different.

Sure you can say x hero is similar to y champion, but even how animations are done and how skills work are very different for both games. The only real similarity is that they are MOBAs.

HoN does have a much higher skill cap than LoL though

LoL rotates free champs every week, so you can get hyped up about getting to mess around with a champ you havn't used, I would get bored if I had everything at once. I find it a little more interesting knowing most people don't have access to all champions either. I'd pull my hair out if there was a Teemo on the enemy team every single game.
  16. conewicci I dun goofed.

Hm, that's an interesting way of thinking about it. I can see what you mean, though.

I don't really like the fact that you have to wait constantly to get a champ. I'd prefer to have all of them ready, so I can test each/anyone that I want whenever I want so I can figure out which ones I really like/dislike right away and then specialize in those champs.

Teemo really isn't that bad, though.

I bought HoN, after thinking about it for awhile (I was looking things up way before I opened this thread, so it wasn't some hasty buy). It just seems like most of the pros/cons are really more opinions, and for the most part, I generally liked the pros of HoN better than the pros on LoL.
  17. Rawrrr Bitch.

I thought everyone already knew HoN was the superior game

    LoL is just more fun
  18. geenareeno Not gReenareeno

That is speaking from a point of view where the point of playing a game is not to have fun. I think you meant HoN is more well made but LoL is more fun.
  19. conewicci I dun goofed.

I find HoN to so far be completely different actually, just like Rawrrr said before. I mean the whole game is really good, but way different than LoL. I like it a lot, but I might still play LoL from time to time (since they have wayyyy different feels/gameplay).

Alternatively, do what I do. Intensely play one game, to the point where you dream about it every night. Get bored, go into short period of depression. Get to the other game, and do the same. And then switch back after the following depression phase. ;P
